As the heat over the current Durga Puja SOP continues to rise in Cachar, senior activist and respected personality of Barak, Shri Pradip Dutta Roy has made a fresh challenge to the district administration’s SOP.
In a media statement, the senior activist has accused the Assam government, senior BJP leaders of the state, and the DC of being involved in the ongoing harassment surrounding Durga Puja rules.
Pradip Dutta Roy said, “The state government and the District Administration are setting different kinds of rules for the puja. Clubs which have already constructed the pandals, will have to perform the puja. Purohitshave already threatened to not perform puja because of the mandatory COVID test rule. What is the wish of the DC? She doesn’t want the puja to be held? We are all worried about coronavirus but the Cachar DC never explained the reason behind restricting temporary puja pandals or setting the maximum height for the murtis in relation to coronavirus spread.”
“She did not even care to discuss the issue with the Puja committee members of Silchar. People are very much angry over such rules and restrictions, that don’t even relate to COVID protocols.”
He further added, “Temporary pandalscan be made by the District Administration employee’s in their campus and that doesn’t violate the rules of DC, but the public pandals are not permitted for that.
Political meetings could be held but not Durga Puja. When we saw about DC’s performance in Hailakandi, we were expecting a lot of good response from her in Cachar but our expectations went wrong. I don’t know who is advising her to do this but they are doing very much wrong with the people of the district.”
