On Saturday, Assam Rifles jawans operating on intelligence input conducted search operations in the Wakka area of Longding district in Arunachal Pradesh.
The search operation which soon transformed into an encounter left behind a hardcore terrorist of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang-Yung Aung) faction abbreviated as NSCN (K-YA) dead. The troops also recovered arms and ammunition from the hideout of the terrorist.
Informing about the operation late on Sunday, the Assam Rifles tweeted, “Assam Rifles along with police successfully neutralised a hardcore NSCN (K-YA) cadre in general area Wakka, Longding district (Arrunachal Pradesh) on 17 October. Troops also recovered one Lathode Gun with three live rounds, one point 32 pistol and one Chinese hand grenade.”
The Assam Rifles also apprehended two insurgents of NSCN (IM) from Nagaland on Friday and three cadres of the insurgent group PREPAK (People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak) on Thursday from Manipur’s Behiang village.
The Assam Rifles have remained engaged in minimizing and tackling the insurgency problem in northeast India for a long time now. In the last one week, the Assam Rifles has officially apprehended 9 Naga insurgents and have neutralized one more on Saturday.
The major Naga insurgent groups active at the moment include NSCN (IM), NSCN (K-YA), NPGN/NNC.
