In an unfortunate incident, a military plane AN-26 crashed in the eastern Ukraine, killing 25 of the total 27 persons on the plane. 2 people survived the crash by jumping out of the plane.
Two seriously injured survivors who were said to have jumped from the plane have been recovered from the wreckage in the city of Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region, the authority said, reported the news portal ‘Stars and Stripes’.
Of the 27 people on board the aircraft, seven were crew members and 20 were students from the Air Force University. The Governor or Kharkiv, Alexei Kuchera has visited the site of the crash.
He said that one of the engines of the plane had failed causing the unfortunate crash. President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to reach the site of the crash by the evening on Saturday.
While expressing condolences for the loss of life in the crash, the United States Embassy in Kyiv said, “We send our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the cadets, officers, and crew killed and ijured in the An-26 plane crash near Kharkiv on Friday night. Our thoughts are with you, and we stand next to you in this time of grief”.
The site of crash is at a distance of around 25 miles from the Russian border in the east. Russian backed separatists are in continuous clash against the Ukrainian government forces in the Luhansk-Donetsk region, that is around 155 miles away from the crash site.
